Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Performance Results
Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 40/100
With the Nokia G20 launched nearly over a year ago, the Nokia G21 makes its arrival within the Entry Tier (€0-€199) of budget smartphones.
This smartphone faces tough competition within this Entry Tier, especially from better well-known brands such as Xiaomi, Realme and Motorola. However, the Nokia G21 uses Android One, which could be seen as advantageous for users with easy UI and fast updates.
As with the Nokia G10, which we tested in our labs earlier this year, the Nokia G21 has exactly the same battery capacity of 5050 mAh. Despite having the same battery capacity, the Nokia G21 achieved an overall battery of 40 out of a possible 100 and was unable to match its processor obtaining 50 as an overall score.
Welcome to the Entry Tier Ranking Table
Within the Entry Tier Ranking table, (smartphones classified in a price range from €0-€199) the Nokia G21 joins other budget smartphones that have gained some impressive scores when tested by our experts in the SmartViser team for battery performance.
The main challengers, to the Nokia G21, are the Oppo A16 and Ulefone Note 11 Pro, both obtaining a score of 39 out of 100 when reviewed in our labs during 2021.
All results can be seen in the table below.
From our battery performance testing, we have compiled all our testing results and scores during 2021 - 2022. These can be seen here in our Smartphone Ranking 2021/2022 table.

POWER EFFICIENCY – 1 Leaf from a 5 Leaf Rating
There are several power-efficient processors, within today's smartphones, that can cope with the growing number of new applications and can support
high-resolution displays without compromising battery life.
Power Efficiency is calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity. This is expressed in “Leaves", reflecting a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power-efficient.
The Average Power Efficiency for an Entry Tier smartphone has a rating of 1.8 Leaf.
A Power Efficiency Score of 1.0 was given to the Nokia G21, therefore falling short of this battery performance level.
From the table shown below, we have the Power Efficiency results shown for the closest challengers of the Nokia G21 within the Entry Tier. You will notice that the Nokia G21 is able to compete well with the Oppo A16 and Ulefone Note 11P which also have a similar battery capacity of 5000 mAh.
Once again the Nokia G21 was unable to challenge the Nokia G10, with a power efficiency rating of 2.5 and over the average expected for Entry Tier smartphones.

Should I buy it?
As a budget smartphone, the Nokia G21 can offer good performance, but when compared with Realme and Motorola smartphones it does fall a little short. Even against the Nokia G10, it is lacking in battery life and power efficiency rating.
Despite being stylish in design and having a few satisfying features like FM radio and a MicroSD slot, it does not have an ultrawide camera, which is now an expected feature, even on budget smartphones. With that said the 90Hz refresh capability is noticeable and improves the user experience of this smartphone.
