  • What To Expect From 6G

The world of telecommunications is moving at a rapid pace. We were discussing 5G only yesterday, and the conversation has already shifted to 6G. Industry experts predict that 6G will be deployed by 2030, but some optimists believe it may come as early as 2028. Given the high level of progress in the telecom industry and the intense competition, we can expect to see 6G deployed much earlier as key players race to be the first to release this new technology. How Have Networks Evolved? A few months ago, ViserMark released a new blog on the network evolution and what were the main milestones and characteristics. Read the full article - Mobile Network Evolution from 1G to 5G Also, end users' speed improvement was noticeable in video streaming and browsing. What Will 6G Bring? Faster Speeds: - 6G technology is expected to have faster data speeds than 5G. This could lead to faster downloads, better streaming quality, and lower latency. Energy Efficiency: 6G networks may focus on energy efficiency to align with global sustainability goals. Mobile network operators are expected to adopt more energy-efficient architectures while building the new network. Various dynamic power management techniques are being discussed to optimise energy usage based on demand. Devices will focus on energy efficiency to align with the circular economy and sustainability initiatives. ViserMark is already assisting consumers in making eco-friendlier choices when purchasing smartphones. We provide an estimate of the Annual Energy Consumption ViserMark Label for all smartphones tested in their lab, displayed below. Also of Interest: Best Ten Smartphones for Annual Energy Consumption Lower Latency: Applications that require real-time responsiveness, such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and autonomous vehicles, depend heavily on reduced latency. The upcoming 6G technology will bring even lower latency than 5G. Increased Capacity: The increasing number of connected devices and data-intensive applications require more network capacity, likely to be provided by 6G. Advanced AI Integration: Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the network infrastructure could lead to more innovative and efficient communication systems. • OnePlus Nord 2 - Smartphone Battery Performance

Impressive Fast Charging - Introducing the OnePlus Nord 2 SMARTPHONE TIER: MID TIER Battery Capacity mAh: 4500 Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 39/100 Overall Battery Performance Score: Ranking #75 Mid Tier Ranking: Ranking #7 We have listed what you need to know about the OnePlus Nord 2 Overview The OnePlus Nord 2 was first reviewed in our testing labs in October 2021, so we welcomed the opportunity to test the battery performance of this smartphone once again. We found that the OnePlus Nord 2 performed well, and with a battery performance score of 48 out of 100, a slight improvement was seen from 46, the previous score. This may result from the MediaTek chipset being used by OnePlus for the first time. There are no ground-breaking features, but the OnePlus delivers a reasonable user experience, offers some high specifications, and is value for money, especially compared to other smartphones in the ViserMark High Tier and Flagship Tiers. Here’s a quick summary of the OnePlus Nord 2 for you: Product - Good Points · Good camera features - Nightscape Ultra mode · 65W super fast charging · Charger included · Stylish design with Gorilla Glass protection · 1080 x 2400 display Product - Be Aware of Points · Limited range of colours available - Gray Sierra, Blue Haze and Green Wood · 90Hz screen only · Not IP-rated · Limited availability - purchases mainly in Europe and India · No wireless charging Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Results We have designed and developed the ViserMark Battery Performance Labels to help Smartphone users. Our battery test results for the OnePlus Nord 2 have been translated into the ViserMark Labels displayed below. Let’s look at the ViserMark review based on the testing results. You can find the full results of our battery performance testing below: Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: The Battery Performance Label shows a score between 0 and 100. It reflects the performance based on independent, repeatable, and rigorous testing. Using various testing criteria, measured using real-life scenarios and live networks, results are collated with calculations from Battery Life, Power Efficiency and Charging results that amount to the total score. The Mid Tier is a competitive marketplace, with many smartphones competing to stand out. Both the Realme GT2 and the Oppo A54 5G match the battery performance score of 48 out of 100, so the OnePlus Nord 2 is an exciting contender, achieving the same score with a 50MP main camera and fast-charging features. We found that in our testing, the overall battery score was 39 out of 100, which is lower than the Xiaomi Poco F3's 49 out of 100, which still delivers better performance. It is still debatable if the MediaTek chipset will be better. However, OnePlus has said it has opened up the 5G AI platform (5G Open Resource Architecture/DORA). They have worked on the DORA platform to improve the camera and display performance and add more features to the phone. Compared to other smartphones within the Mid Tier, Samsung devices dominate the top half of this Tier, achieving 62 out of 100 scores for the Samsung A52 5G and Samsung M51. Notably, both smartphones have a battery capacity of 700mAh and offer a first-class user experience. The Xiaomi Poco F3 remains marginally ahead of the OnePlus Nord 2 with a battery performance score of 49, a higher-quality screen, and a more attractive lower price. The Xiaomi Poco F3 even has decent stereo speakers; this is not the case for the OnePlus Nord 2; quality is lacking in this area. Battery Life Battery Life - How long will this Smartphone battery last? This is expressed in “Days-of-Use” and reflects the number of days that a smartphone can be used from a full charge. The battery capacity of the OnePlus Nord is 4500mAh, and this provides enough charge for 1.5 days of use. It matches its nearest rivals, Xiaomi and Oppo, on battery performance and gains a slight advantage over the Realme GT2, as the chart demonstrates below. Charging Times Battery Charging Time - How long will this Smartphone take to charge? Time varies when charging different types and sizes of smartphone batteries. This is expressed in Hours and Minutes. We test the charging times of every device as part of our testing protocol. The performance of the OnePlus Nord 2 is exceptional - fully charged in only 28 minutes! The OnePlus Nord 2 emerges as a true winner. It beats the Xiaomi Poco F3 with a 1 hour and 3 minutes charging time. See the charging times presented here. One important feature that OnePlus has introduced is fast charging. From 30W on the OnePlus Nord to 65W on the OnePlus 2. A charger is packed in the box, so you can use it immediately if required. Unfortunately, there is no wireless charging available on the OnePlus Nord 2. The OnePlus Nord 2 is capable of fast charging times, and in our testing, we compared these charging time results to the rest of the Mid Tier smartphones. The chart below shows our findings, and you will see that the OnePlus Nord 2 is faster than the OnePlus Nord CE by over 20 minutes. Coming to our labs soon is the OnePlus Nord CE, and it will be interesting to see if our testing shows any significant improvements in charging times and overall battery performance. Power Efficiency Power Efficiency - How power-efficient is this Smartphone? Maximising the smartphone performance while reducing the energy it consumes, with minimal impact on battery life. It is calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity. This is expressed in “Leaves" and reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power-efficient. It is calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity. This is expressed in “Leaves" and reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power-efficient. Our recent Power Efficiency testing results showed a 1 out of 5 rating for the OnePlus Nord 2. This rating matches that of the Realme GT2. However, the Xiaomi Poco F3 and Oppo A54 5G achieve a higher rating of 1.5 out of 5. It is worth mentioning that the OnePlus Nord 2 design does offer extra protection against drops with its Gorilla Glass 5, even though it has no IP rating. Should I buy it? The OnePlus Nord 2 offers many features, like the new Nightscape Ultra camera mode and fast charging. But it lacks a better display, wireless charging, and no microSD slot. It can compete competitively with its closest rivals, the Realme GT2, Oppo A54 5G and the Xiaomi Poco F3. The OnePlus Nord 2 will cope with daily activities well and comes to 5 G-ready. It is also unlikely to run as fast as other better-performing smartphones. So, if you are happy to wait for a few extra seconds, choosing the 256GB version is sensible. Within the new Samsung S22 series, the latest mobile chipsets have been used. There is a regional variation with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 being used in the US and other areas using Samsung’s Exynos 2200 as an alternative processor. During the testing in our labs, we were interested to discover how the battery performance compared with the other smartphones within the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+). As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus did achieve an overall battery performance score of 40, slightly higher than the 36 obtained by the Samsung Galaxy S22. Compared to other smartphones within the Flagship/Pro Tier, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max remains in 1st place with an impressive battery performance score of 72. Even the predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S21, still holds a higher score of 45 than the newly introduced S22 series. It managed 1.5 days of usage, therefore matching that of the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the Samsung Galaxy S21, as the chart below demonstrates. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus has good battery performance and can match other smartphones with 1.5 days of usage. However, it would struggle to compete with the Apple iPhone 13 Pro, delivering an impressive 3.5 days of use - exceptional battery performance. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has the largest battery capacity of 5,000mAh within the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. We look forward to testing this smartphone soon. The charging time for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus was 2 hours and 8 minutes to 100% power up. Although this was faster than the Samsung Galaxy S22, 2 hours and 36 minutes, it still exceeded the 2-hour mark. Samsung claims you can obtain a 50% charge in just 20 minutes when using the 45W charger. When comparing our previous testing results for the Samsung Galaxy S21, they showed a significantly quicker time of 1 hour 13 minutes. This beats even the charging time for the Apple iPhone 13 Pro of 1 hour and 50 minutes and even the faster Google Pixel 6 with a charging time of 1 hour and 47 minutes. Samsung says that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus should keep its charge all day due to the more efficient 4nm chipset, which allows the display to drop as low as 10Hz. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus was capable of 1.5 days of usage when tested in the ViserMark labs. More Charging Times can be viewed in the Charging Times table. Power Efficiency Power Efficiency - How power-efficient is this Smartphone? Maximising the smartphone performance while reducing the energy it consumes, with minimal impact on battery life. The Samsung S22 Plus offers extra protection against drops with its Gorilla Glass Victus Plus back, which was previously plastic and is now considered 12.5% stronger than Gorilla Victus Glass. Also, this device has gained the IP68 rating for incidents involving dust and water, an added bonus for some. More Power Efficiency Scores can be viewed in the Power Efficiency table. Should I buy it? The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is an ideal option for those looking for a slightly bigger screen than the Samsung Galaxy S22. • Google Pixel 7- Smartphone Battery Performance

The Google Pixel 7 - Good Value For Money Smartphone SMARTPHONE TIER: FLAGSHIP Battery Capacity mAh: 4355 Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 34/100 Overall Battery Performance Score: Ranking #96 Flagship Tier Ranking: Ranking #8 We have listed what you need to know about the Google Pixel 7 Overview Google has recently introduced a new smartphone into its popular Pixel 7 range. The Google Pixel 7 offers only a few improvements over the Google Pixel 6, noticeably an improved shape, a better choice of colours and its new zirconia-blasted aluminium finish" created entirely of recycled materials. The Google Pixel 7 is an outstanding and lightweight smartphone with an appealing price compared to others within the Flagship Tier (€700+). Google's Tensor G2 processor powers it and is one of the first Flagship/Pro devices to have Android 13 preinstalled. The Google Pixel 7 achieved a 34 out of 100 battery performance score during our testing. This score is based on daily activities, providing a realistic Smartphone battery life review. The Google Pixel 7 offers excellent functionality, including superior text-to-speech and computational photography, from improved A1 performance. Here’s a quick summary of the Google Pixel 7 for you: Product - Good Points · Excellent camera performance with HDR10 video viewing - Good battery performance · Robust design and easy to handle and hold - An upgraded fingerprint scanner - Good value for money, with technology update pledge - Dust and Water-resistant ratings Product - Be Aware of Points · Display is 90 Hz, slightly lacking against other smartphones with 120Hz - Slow charging · A few lens speed and camera issues - Certain software limitations depending on world regions - Slightly sluggish performance Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Results We have designed and developed Battery Performance Labels to help Smartphone users. Our battery test results for the Google Pixel 7 have been translated into the ViserMark Labels displayed below. The Google Pixel 7 was positioned in the Flagship Tier (€700+) with an attractive lower price, offering incredible value for money. With a score of 34 out of 100 obtained for battery performance, it was positioned in the bottom half of the Battery Performance Scores for 2022. The Google Pixel 7 achieved an overall battery performance score of 34 out of 100. Therefore, it compares very well with the Samsung S22, which obtained just 2 points more with 36 out of 100. The Sony XQ BQ52 scored 41 out of 100, slightly higher than the Samsung and Google devices, which all take positions towards the lower half of the Flagship/Pro Tier. The Apple brand remains in the top, scoring 72 and 53 out of 100, respectively, for the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro. Both have impressive overall battery performances - those other competitors may struggle to exceed. When evaluating the Google Pixel 7, the results were comparable with the Samsung S22. Only slight differences can be found in battery capacity and charging times, which will be discussed further in this review. More Battery Performance Scores can be viewed in the Flagship Tier Ranking table. Battery Life Battery Life - How long will this Smartphone battery last? This is expressed in “Days-of-Use” and reflects the number of days that a smartphone can be used from a full charge. When looking at the Flagship/Pro Tier, most devices can last for 1.5 days of usage, with the exceptions being the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max with 3.5 days of battery life and the Apple iPhone 13 Pro with one day less, with 2.5 days of battery life. When looking at the Google Pixel range, it is clear that the battery capacity has been considerably reduced. The Google Pixel 6 was released in Oct 2021 with 4600 mAh. With the introduction of the Google Pixel 7 one year later, the battery capacity is only 4355 mAh. Even with less battery capacity, the Google Pixel 7 can still deliver 1.5 days of use and can match smartphones within the Flagship/Pro Tier with greater battery capacity, such as the Sony XQ BQ52 with 4500mAh. However, it must be noted that the Samsung S22 also delivers 1.5 days of usage despite having an even smaller battery capacity of 3700mAh - which is quite remarkable as Flagship/Pro smartphones are expected to be feature-rich. Google does state that Pixel’s Adaptive Battery can last over 24 hours – and up to 72 hours when you turn on Extreme Battery Saver. However, this feature disables various features, including 5G connectivity. Our battery performance protocol ensures that we measure and evaluate key areas of user experience, with all default testing performed under strictly controlled conditions without Battery Saver features enabled. See what other smartphones made it into the Top Ten. View the Days of Use table. Charging Times Battery Charging Time - How long will this Smartphone take to charge? Time varies when charging different types and sizes of smartphone batteries. This is expressed in Hours and Minutes. When reviewing Charging Times for Flagship/Pro smartphones, there is a considerable range from the fastest, only 1 hour and 13 minutes, to the slowest, the Google Pixel 7, reaching 2 hours and 51 minutes. However, the Samsung S22 also exceeded 2 hours and 36 minutes, with the Sony XQ BQ52 reaching under 2 hours to compete with smartphones at the top of the Flagship/Pro Tier. More Charging Times can be viewed in the Charging Times table. Power Efficiency Power Efficiency - How power efficient is this Smartphone? Maximising the smartphone performance while reducing the energy it consumes, with minimal impact on battery life. It is calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity. This is expressed in “Leaves" and reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power efficient. The Google Pixel 7 scored 1, the same rating as most of the devices in the Flagship/Pro Tier, once again only exceeded by the Apple brand with higher power efficiency devices. The most battery-efficient smartphones will provide good battery life and reduce the number of times the battery will need to be charged, harming its longevity. More Power Efficiency Scores can be viewed in the Power Efficiency table. Should I buy it? The Google Pixel 7 is a reliable smartphone that delivers great camera quality, provides a good user experience and is packaged at a reasonable price for features on a higher-priced smartphone. • Samsung Galaxy S22 - Smartphone Battery Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S22 - Small, Well Designed and Affordable! SMARTPHONE TIER: FLAGSHIP Battery Capacity mAh: 3700 Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 36/100 Overall Battery Performance Score: Ranking #82 Flagship/Pro Tier Ranking: Ranking #8 We have listed what you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S22. Overview The Samsung Galaxy S22 is small yet doesn’t lack any of the features you expect from smartphones classified with the Flagship/Pro Tier. It is a high-quality, well-designed smartphone that fits comfortably in your hand. Despite having a smaller battery capacity compared to that of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S22 offers you value for money, being around £769 UK price. From the new S22 series, the Samsung Galaxy S22 offers excellent performance at an affordable price, and if bought directly from Samsung.com, it is available in four Samsung-exclusive colours! Here’s a quick summary of the Samsung Galaxy S22 for you: Product - Good Points · Compacted and good design · High-quality with high-end features · 3 x optical zoom · IP68-rated water and dust resistance · Gorilla Glass Victus · 5G Connectivity Product - Be Aware of Points · Lacking camera quality, compared to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra · No charging adapter – just the USB-C cable · Charges at 25W rather than 45W of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra · Chipset varies by region · Power users should consider the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus with a 4,500mAh battery · No Micro SD slot · No Wi-Fi 6E and UWB Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Results We have designed and developed the ViserMark Battery Performance Labels to help Smartphone users. Our battery test results for the Samsung Galaxy S22 have been translated into the ViserMark Labels displayed below. Within the new Samsung S22 series, the latest mobile chipsets have been used. There is a regional variation with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 being used in the US and other areas using Samsung’s Exynos 2200 as an alternative processor. During the testing in our labs, we were interested in discovering how the battery performance compared with the other smartphones within the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+). The results were good, but unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S21 still maintained a better battery performance score than the Samsung Galaxy S22. The Battery Performance score for the Samsung Galaxy S22 was a respectable 36/100. This is not near the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max (72/100) or close to its processor, the Samsung Galaxy S21 (45/100). With only a tiny margin, the Google Pixel 6 (42/100) remains ahead. More Battery Performance Scores can be viewed in the Flagship/Pro Tier Ranking table. Battery Life Battery Life - How long will this Smartphone battery last? This is expressed in “Days-of-Use” and reflects the number of days that a smartphone can be used from a full charge. Being a small smartphone, the battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S22 has reduced from 4,000 mAh on the Samsung S21 to 3,700 mAh. We are pleased to report that during our testing, there seemed to be no impact, and both smartphones successfully achieved 1.5 Days of Usage, as the chart below demonstrates. The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max remains in Number One place with an impressive 3.5 Days of Usage, with the Google Pixel 6 attaining the average Flagship/Pro Battery score of 1.5 Days of Use. With a stylish design, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is the smallest of the Samsung series S22 with a 3700mAh battery capacity. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus has a 4,500mAh battery capacity, and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery capacity. Although these smartphones have giant screens, no evidence suggests they use any more energy. We look forward to testing these smartphones in our testing labs shortly. More Days of Usage Scores can be viewed in the Days of Usage table. Charging Times Battery Charging Time - How long will this Smartphone take to charge? Time varies to charge different types and sizes of Smartphone batteries. This is expressed in Hours and Minutes. We test the charging times of every device as part of our testing protocol. The charging time for the Samsung Galaxy S22 was not impressive, exceeding the 2-hour mark. When comparing our previous testing results for the Samsung Galaxy S21, they showed a significantly quicker time of 1 hour 13 minutes. This beats even the charging time for the Apple iPhone 13 Pro (1h:50min) and even the faster Google Pixel 6 (1h:47mins) The Samsung Galaxy S22 can support 25W charging, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra enjoy 45W charging. Samsung says the Samsung Galaxy S22 can reach 60% after 30 minutes, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is already 70% charged, even with a larger battery capacity. The Apple iPhone 13 remains even quicker, reaching a 51% charge during the same 30-minute duration. Samsung says that the Samsung Galaxy S22 should keep its charge all day due to the more efficient 4nm chipset, which allows the display to drop as low as 10Hz. Also, the Samsung Galaxy S22 misses out on a charging adapter and is shipped with only the USB-C cable. However, other compatible 25W adapters and a Qi adapter can also be used. More Charging Times can be viewed in the Charging Times table. Power Efficiency Power Efficiency - How power-efficient is this Smartphone? Maximising the smartphone performance while reducing the energy it consumes, with minimal impact on battery life. With the reduction in the Samsung Galaxy S22 battery capacity, Samsung is looking to make this device more power-efficient than the Samsung Galaxy S21. This could reduce the carbon footprint by 5% without any impact on battery performance. The results from our recent testing of Power Efficiency showed a rating of 1 out of 5. We again referred to our previous Samsung Galaxy S21 battery testing results as part of our comparative testing. The Power Efficiency Score obtained was 1.5 out of 5, and the results for the latest Samsung Galaxy S22 were disappointing, as further efficiencies of energy usage have been missed. The Samsung S22 offers extra protection against drops with its Gorilla Glass Victus Plus back, which was previously plastic and is now considered 12.5% stronger than Gorilla Victus Glass. Also, this device has gained the IP68 rating for incidents involving dust and water, an added bonus for some. Being even smaller than the iPhone 13 Mini, Samsung says the Samsung S22 series is much more eco-conscious – it has even reduced the size of the shipping boxes and removed all plastic. Even certain parts of the device can be replaced by using recycled fishing nets. More Power Efficiency Scores can be viewed in the Power Efficiency table. Should I buy it? The Samsung Galaxy S22 remains highly competitive within the Flagship/Pro Tier, with the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max at €1639 and the Google Pixel 6. Therefore, it is an affordable smartphone, especially for long-term Samsung users who enjoy the well-known features or want to keep within a budget.
