The OPPO A78 is available in eye-catching shimmering colours of Glowing Purple, Blue and Black and has the feel of a more expensive smartphone than it actually is. OPPO has made some compromises to keep the OPPO A78 relatively affordable. It has no stand-out features in design, although it has a larger LCD display that should allow for higher resolutions. The OPPO A78 has a resolution of only 1,612 × 720 pixels, which seems lacking in sharpness of image quality due to the lower pixel density display compared to similar smartphones. Also, with 5G connectivity becoming more readily available in smartphones, the OPPO A78 offers an affordable 5G smartphone within the OPPO range. What's it like to Use? A MediaTek Dimensity 700 chip runs the OPPO A78. It provides a good reliable overall smartphone performance compared to other Android Mid Tier smartphones. However, some have mentioned that the device gets slightly warm during gaming, but the OPPO A78 is responsive and more than capable of handling everyday tasks. With a dual-camera setup, the OPPO A78 has a 50MP main camera to enable users to capture crystal-clear, high-resolution images, a 2MP self-portrait lens, and an 8MP front camera for high-quality portraits. To record even more visual details, the A78 5G’s 108MP Ultra-Clear Image uses software algorithms to increase the resolution of images to 108MP, providing an impressive level of clarity. SMARTPHONE TIER: FLAGSHIP/PRO Battery Capacity mAh: 4300 OPPO's First Folding Smartphone - the Find N2 Flip is a Deserving Flagship Competitor. Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 38/100 Overall Battery Performance Score: Ranking #95 Flagship/Pro Ranking: #8 All you need to know about the OPPO Find N2 Flip smartphone. Overview After working on this technology for several years, OPPO has now launched the OPPO Find N2 Flip smartphone into the foldable market, competing against bigger brands like Samsung. With excellent performance, good battery life and key features, it can match the popular Samsung Z Flip 4 and may be favoured as an attractive foldable alternative. In the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+), the OPPO Find N2 Flip takes place in the high-end category for similarly priced smartphones. It is a compact, lightweight flip phone that can easily fit in a pocket or purse. The phone has a solid and compact build quality, is easy to hold and use with one hand, and weighs 191g. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is a smartphone with an innovative flip design. It has a high-quality look and feels well-built, providing durability to withstand daily wear and tear. When unfolded, the 6.8-inch display looks like a full-sized smartphone and an anti-fingerprint coating stops smears from appearing on the screen. The crease on its screen is hardly noticeable, thanks to the Flexion Hinge with a waterdrop design. Having a Reticular Matrix Plate, it slides out of the way when the phone is closed and locks back into place, closing completely flat, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. OPPO state that the hinge will work for more than 400,000 folds - this equates to the device being opened and closed 100 times a day for 10 years! One of the standout features of the OPPO Find N2 Flip is the camera system. Often foldable smartphones suffer from insufficient camera functionality and quality. However, this is not the case with this smartphone. Powered by Sony's IMX890 sensor (as used in the OnePlus 11), the OPPO's MariSilican X imaging NPU assists with image processing. Although lacking in optical image stabilisation, OPPO's camera technology is impressive. The hinge mechanism can support the phone at any angle between 45 and 110 degrees, enabling interesting camera usage, including tripod mode, waist-level shooting and 'camcorder' mode. The OPPO Find N2 Flip could be a direct comparison to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Despite being half the size, the OPPO Find N2 Flip comes in a similar package as the larger OPPO Find N2. Inside, the contents are similar, except for the case. Two transparent hard plastic snap-on covers are included, one for each half of the device. It is also shipped with a 44W SUPERVOOC PD charger and cable. Product - Good Points The OPPO Find N2 Flip has the following features: impressive innovative foldable design seamless cease when the large screen folds in half comfortable to hold with a large display good main camera and front-facing functionality good battery life fast 45W charging less expensive than competitors Product - Be Aware of Points The OPPO Find N2 Flip lacks in performance in the following ways: lacking in durability when compared to other smartphones, only splash-resistant with no dust resistance the Ultra-wide camera does not support 4K video recording it does not include any recycled materials Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Performance Results We have designed and developed Battery Performance Labels to help Smartphone users. Translated into the ViserMark Labels, the battery performance test results for the device, OPPO Find N2 Flip, are below. Our experts are asked to test more than 100 Smartphones every year. OPPO Find N2 Flip Smartphone Battery Performance Score With comparative foldable smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Motorola Razr, and now the OPPO Find N2 Flip now available, we will soon share our testing results, looking specifically at the battery performance of foldable smartphones. In our recent testing, the battery performance test results delivered an overall score of 38 out of a hundred for the OPPO Find N2 Flip. When viewing the ViserMark Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+) tier, other manufacturers with the latest regular smartphones have similar results, as shown in the chart below. \ Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier As you can see, the OPPO Find N2 Flip obtained the same overall battery performance score of 38 as the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S23+; however, the Xiaomi 13 Pro achieved only 1 mark higher with a 39 out of one hundred. This makes for an interesting and closely matched smartphone review. Let's take an in-depth view of our testing results and battery performance for these varied smartphones. Other smartphone battery performance results can be seen the Smartphone Ranking Table Battery Life Battery Life - How long will this Smartphone battery last? The Battery Life ViserMark Label displays the “Days-of-Use” in both actual days and provides accurate information in hours. It reflects the usage of a smartphone from a full charge. OPPO Find N2 Flip Smartphone Battery Life Ratings The OPPO Find N2 Flip has a battery capacity of 4300mAh, and the cells are positioned on either side of the hinge with the smartphone. It can last 1.5 days of usage, translating into 36 hours. OPPO does state that the batteries can maintain at least 80% of their original capacity for a minimum of 800 full charge cycles and offers a repairable battery service with replacements available and trade-in options. Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier The Xiaomi 13 Pro delivers the same 1.5 days of usage, equally 46 hours when comparing similar smartphones. However, having the largest battery capacity of 4820mAh may contribute towards the additional 10 hours of usage over the OPPO Find N2 Flip with 36 hours. The Samsung Galaxy S23+ has 4700mAh, only a slightly smaller battery capacity, yet delivers half a day more, with 49 hours delivered. A short time ago, ViserMark introduced the Hours metric to the Battery Life ViserMark Label to provide further detail about battery usage; consequently, the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23+ are much more comparative than previously considered. Regarding performance, all three devices run on the latest Android 13 version, although the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets support the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23+. The OPPO Find N2 Flip has a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip that sometimes runs slower than Qualcomm. Considering this and having the smallest battery capacity of the three devices, it competes well with the overall battery performance score acquired. Other smartphone battery performance results can be seen in the Smartphone Tier Reviews table. Charging Times Battery Charging Time - How long will this smartphone take to charge? Time varies to charge different types and sizes of Smartphone batteries. They are expressed in Hours and Minutes. OPPO Find N2 Flip Smartphone Battery Life Ratings The OPPO Find N2 Flip has a battery capacity of 4300mAh, larger than other foldable smartphones, such as the Samsung Z Flip, with 3700mAh. OPPO supplies the 44W SuperVOOC charging to provide a 50% charge in 24 minutes and a full charge in an hour. As OPPO states, all tests are performed in OPPO labs. The actual charging time may vary depending on differences in environments or individual devices (such as temperature variations and battery age). As you can see in the chart below, the OPPO Find N2 Flip took over 2 hours to charge its 4300mAh battery during our testing protocol using ViserMark independent lab. The Xiaomi 13 Pro was not far behind, with the Samsung Galaxy S23+ trailing the 3 devices. Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier The Smartphone Ranking Table for more smartphones can be viewed. Power Efficiency Power Efficiency - How power efficient is this smartphone? It maximises the smartphone's performance while reducing the energy it consumes, with minimal impact on battery life. Samsung Galaxy S23+ Smartphone Battery Efficiency Results Calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity and expressed in “Leaves", it reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power efficient. When tested, the OPPO Find N2 Flip gained a 1 out of 5 battery efficiency score. This matches all 3 comparative devices when tested for battery efficiency. Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier The Smartphone Ranking Table for more smartphones can be viewed. Annual Energy Consumption Power Consumption - How much energy does this smartphone use? All smartphones use energy, and although it is only a small amount, each smartphone varies in consumption. Samsung Galaxy S23+ Smartphone Annual Energy Consumption Results Our results calculated that the OPPO Find N2 Flip would use only 3.9 kWh per Annum; when tested, slightly higher usage than the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23+ Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier Through the ViserMark testing protocol, end-users can see an objective benchmark across all devices on their smartphone's expected annual electricity consumption. Should I buy it? OPPO has finally introduced its first foldable smartphone into a competitive foldable market. Having worked hard on its technology, the OPPO Find N2 Flip delivers on performance, battery life and camera functionality at an even more competitive price. Considering that other regular smartphones are also available in the Flagship/Pro Tier, this smartphone challenges impressively well on overall battery performance. With its large screen, the OPPO Find N2 Flip display is 6.8 inches vs 6.73 inches of the Xiaomi 13 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S23+ is smaller. Also, at 191g, it remains the lightest of all three devices. Despite having the smallest battery capacity, it performs well on battery life and has a respectable Flagship/Pro 120Hz refresh rate. Although it has a good camera setup, it may disappoint in image quality compared to the Samsung Galaxy S23+ and Xiaomi13 Pro camera capabilities. Regarding versatility, the OPPO Find N2 Flip gives users the option of "Functionality at the Fingertips" with many Smart Widgets, such as One-Swipe Display or a Quick High-Res Selfie. Being new and still innovative, the foldable technology used in the OPPO Find N2 Flip may be less durable than standard smartphones, with only splash resistance and lacking IP ratings. Perhaps a little more care and attention are required. Although the OPPO Find N2 Flip is not perfect, it can offer a unique and different user experience, introducing more creativity and flexibility, especially when multitasking daily tasks. This smartphone is ideal for people who want to enjoy new ways of using a smartphone. Overview Xiaomi has tried hard to improve both design and performance. In March 2023, the global launch of the Xiaomi 13 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro as Flagship smartphones passed expectations. Also, with a new partnership with Leica, known for its imaging philosophy and emotive imaging aesthetics, the Xiaomi 13 Pro has benefitted from a great camera system complete with a professional optical lens. With both new Xiaomi devices joining the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+), they are both unique in look and appearance. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is larger and weighs 229g, is one of the heavier smartphones with the Flagship/Pro tier. It has a curvier design and looks like other Android devices, unlike the Xiaomi 13, which is more aligned with the design of an iPhone. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is well-built and looks impressive. It is easy to hold and use with a larger AMOLED display of 6.73 inches than the Xiaomi 13, with 6.36 inches. Also, the Xiaomi 13 Pro has added protection with a Gorilla Glass Victus front, unlike the Xiaomi 13, which has Gorilla Glass 5. Both smartphones have water and dust resistance and are IP68 rated, unlike the Xiaomi 12 series. The Xiaomi 13 Pro runs the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor making it competitive against other Flagship smartphones regarding performance. It has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, supports Wi-Fi 7 as well as Bluetooth 5.3 and comes with dual SIM. The most exciting feature Xiaomi has introduced on the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro is the impressive camera system, co-engineered with Leica. Benefitting from wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, the design of the camera app is faster and easier to use. Also, a 1-inch ultra-large sensor provides a massive light-sensitive area, more powerful light absorption and better imaging resolution. Product - Good Points The Xiaomi 13 Pro has the following features: improved design and performance 1-inch ultra larger sensor for better photography high-quality triple camera system with Leica lenses Sharp WQHD+ resolution (522 PPI) fast charging battery good battery life guaranteed Android and Security updates Product - Be Aware of Points The Xiaomi 13 Pro lacks in performance in the following ways: heavier than other smartphones glossy display prone to smears some issues with battery saver mode various storage and colours available depending on market Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Performance Results We have designed and developed Battery Performance Labels to help Smartphone users. Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier As you can see, the Xiaomi 13 Pro obtained an overall battery performance score of 39, with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S23+ being 1 point lower with 38. The Google 7 Pro achieved 32 out of hundred. When we look closely at the Xiaomi 13 Pro, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and was launched in December 2022. One month later, the Samsung Galaxy S23+ was released, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. The overall battery performance of both these smartphones was very comparative, only separated by 1 mark. However, some key differences exist between the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23+. The Xiaomi 13 Pro features include a higher pixel density and 3.2x optical zoom, although the Samsung Galaxy S23+ is lighter in weight and has a slightly longer battery life. The Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro were launched in October 2022. Even though the overall battery performance obtained a lower score of 32 out of one hundred, the Google Pixel 7 Pro is a great and well-designed smartphone. Like the other comparative devices, it captures beautiful images at night and during the day and has exceptional camera features. Also, the Pixel 7 Pro, powered by a Tensor G2 chipset, is optimised for Google-specific AI. Photos can be made clear using Real Tone technology, and it recognises speech more accurately, making Google Assistant more useful. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is the latest flagship smartphone with one of the best camera systems in 2023. • Sony Xperia 10 IV - Smartphone Battery Performance

SMARTPHONE TIER: MID Battery Capacity mAh: 5000 Sony Xperia 10 IV - Best-In-Class Battery Performance Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 38/100 Overall Battery Performance Score: Ranking #96 Mid Tier Ranking: #9 Credit Image: Sony This review offers all you need to know about the Sony Xperia 10 IV smartphone. Overview The Sony Xperia 10 IV looks a lot like the Xperia 10 III. The sides of the Sony Xperia 10 IV are flatter, and it lacks a dedicated Google Assistant button. Additionally, the back of the phone is made of plastic instead of glass, contributing to a lighter overall weight. With an IP65/IP68 rating, the phone provides dust and water protection, allowing it to withstand submersion in water at a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. Such durability is uncommon and impressive for a smartphone at this price. On the Sony Xperia 10 IV, the phone frame houses a fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the standard power and volume buttons. The camera sits flush with the rear, resulting in a more sleek and compact appearance. Being an exceptionally slim and lightweight smartphone, the Sony Xperia 10 IV keeps its hefty 5,000 mAh battery hidden. It measures 153 x 67 x 8.3mm and weighs 161g, making it suitable for most pockets or purses. Being so compact in design, the Sony Xperia 10 IV makes it convenient for users to carry it around without feeling bulky or weighed down. Also, it has an ergonomic feel, ensuring a comfortable grip and ease of handling. The Sony Xperia 10 IV joins the Mid Tier (€200-€499), being a more affordable smartphone category. What's it like to Use? The Sony Xperia 10 IV features a vibrant 6-inch OLED display with 1080 x 2520 pixels resolution. The screen is made with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for added scratch resistance. One drawback is the 60Hz refresh rate, lower than competitors offering 90Hz or 120Hz panels. However, the screen performs well for video streaming and social media browsing. The Sony Xperia 10 IV has a compact size due to its relatively small display and narrow form factor with a 21:9 aspect ratio. It allows for easy single-handed use, but accessing the top of the screen may still require both hands. This is addressed by enabling users to access the notification pane anywhere on the home screen. The FHD+ display with a 2520 x1080 pixels resolution provides sharp visuals and vibrant colours due to OLED technology. The default "Standard" display mode offers punchy colours, while the "Original" mode delivers a more natural look. How does it perform? Overall, the Sony Xperia 10 IV delivers a smooth battery performance, although occasional stuttering may occur during demanding tasks like quickly switching between complex apps. Nevertheless, this minor issue hardly impacts the overall experience, as most apps and games run smoothly. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset powers the device, slightly evolving from the previous 690 chipset. Built on a 6nm manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 695 offers improved efficiency. The chipset comprises two Kryo 660 Gold (Cortex-A78) cores clocked at 2200 MHz and six Kryo 660 Silver (Cortex-A55) cores clocked at 1700 MHz. This innovative architecture balances performance and battery life, enabling the Sony Xperia 10 IV to achieve impressive longevity. With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory (expandable up to 1TB via a microSD card slot), the device provides ample storage space. It's worth noting that the Sony Xperia 10 IV features a headphone jack, which is becoming increasingly rare in modern smartphones. However, it lacks accurate stereo sound output, which may be a drawback compared to competitors that offer this feature. The camera setup of the Sony Xperia 10 IV retains the same triple camera system as its predecessor. This setup comprises a wide 27mm lens, an ultrawide 16mm lens, and a telephoto 54mm lens. In theory, this configuration offers versatility and covers many shooting scenarios. Also, this smartphone is available in four colours: Black, White, Mint, and Lavender. What else is in the box? Sony has taken a step towards sustainability by eliminating plastic packaging. The box does not include a charger or USB cable but instead contains a significant amount of folded paper, which raises questions about why Sony didn't reduce the packaging size to better fit the phone. A Quick Summary The Sony Xperia 10 IV offers a significant improvement over previous Xperia smartphones, one being it uses Gorilla Glass Victus, which is stronger and more resistant to scratches. It has many desirable features, including a telephoto camera, excellent battery performance and an IP68 rating. However, there are a few areas where this smartphone is genuinely lacking, with slow and no wireless charging and only a 60Hz refresh rate display. The Sony Xperia 10 IV remains a reliable choice for users who want a sleek and solid smartphone with excellent battery performance and a top-grade 6-inch AMOLED display. Product - Good Points The Sony Xperia 10 IV has the following features: lightweight and a hand-fit design excellent battery life P65/68 rated having a tough, water-resistant design triple-lens camera with improved features Corning® Gorilla® Glass 6 display protection Product - Be Aware of Points The Sony Xperia 10 IV lacks in performance in the following ways: lacks performance, so not ideal for gaming lacks camera image quality, especially in night mode only has a 60Hz display screen refresh there is no stereo speaker poor charging speed comes with no charging adapter Smartphone Battery Performance Score and Battery Performance Results ViserMark brings you a Smartphone Performance Score based on different criteria and benchmarks for evaluating a smartphone's performance. The Sony Xperia 10 IV Battery Performance review by ViserMark is based on the smartphone battery performance results obtained during testing. Reading this review, you can find a full breakdown of our battery performance results. Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: Using repeatable and rigorous testing criteria, ViserMark measures battery performance using real-life scenarios and live networks. The test results are collated with calculations from smartphone Battery Life, Power Efficiency, and Charging results that total a score between 0 and 100. This is the number displayed on the Battery Performance ViserMark Label shown below. The Sony Xperia 10 IV achieved a Battery Performance Score of 38 out of hundred. Being classified as a ViserMark Mid Tier (€200-€499) smartphone, we can see other comparable devices with similar Battery Performance Scores within this tier. The chart above shows two other smartphones, the Realme Narzo 50 and the Nothing Phone 1, with slightly higher Battery Performance Scores than the Sony Xperia 10 IV. However, with both achieving scores over 40, the Realme Narzo 50 leads the way with a score of 46. It's impressive that only 8 marks separate all three mobile phones with"unique offerings. The Realme Narzo 50, launched in February 2022, offers excellent value for money. It runs UI 3.0, based on Android 12, and has benefited from multiple upgrades and improved technology integrations introduced by Realme, which have contributed to a much-improved performance. The 6.6-inch IPS display, with an FHD+ resolution and a 180Hz touch sampling rate, provides smooth graphics. However, the 120Hz refresh rate, unlike the Sony Xperia 10 IV having only 60Hz, makes it a perfect choice for gamers on a tight budget. It also offers a Gaming Mode to customise your games' themes and alert preferences. Making its debut in July 2022, the Nothing Phone 1 offers wireless charging and a fast screen refresh rate than the Sony Xperia 10 IV. Being powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, the Nothing Phone 1 is available with 8G of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Sony Xperia 10 IV was launched in May 2022, and although powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, it's run by an older version, so this may account for the lack of battery performance. One of the highlights of the Nothing Phone 1 is its unique notification system. This "Ear (1) phone" system uses the phone's back panel to display various notifications and messages and a series of glyphs that appear around the edges of the display to alert users to incoming calls, messages, and other information. Let us discover if our battery performance testing results can show more key improvements. Other smartphone Battery Performance Scores can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table. Battery Life Smartphone battery life performance can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the device's hardware, software optimisation, battery capacity, usage patterns, and individual settings. When contemplating smartphone battery life, focus on these areas: The battery capacity, usually measured in milliampere-hours (mAh), determines how much charge a battery can store. The Battery Life ViserMark Label displays the "Days-of-Use" in both actual days and provides accurate information in hours. It reflects the usage of a smartphone from a full charge. How long will the Sony Xperia 10 IV battery last? ViserMark understands that this is a key factor when considering any smartphone, and we are pleased to announce that the Sony Xperia 10 IV delivered on battery performance. With an impressive 2 days of use, translating into 50 hours between charges, it nudges ahead of the Nothing Phone 1 by 1 hour. All three comparative smartphones can last up to 2 days, and it must be said that most smartphones in the Mid Tier can also match this remarkable battery performance. With the introduction of hours added to the ViserMark Battery Life Label, it is even easier to see just how competitive the devices are in their functionality. With many manufacturers opting for a 5000 mAh battery capacity, as used in the Sony Xperia 10 IV and the Realme Narzo 50, the Nothing Phone 1 has a smaller battery capacity of 4500 mAh. From the chart, the Nothing Phone 1 can still deliver on battery performance and is only marginally behind the Sony Xperia 10 IV. Notably, both are powered by Snapdragon chipsets providing more power efficiency and a smooth experience. Often the display is one of the most power-hungry components of a smartphone. The Nothing Phone 1 has a 6.5-inch screen, and with a 6.4-inch screen, the Realme Narzo, both smartphones are more significant than the 6.0-inch Sony Xperia 10 IV. All devices take advantage of pre-set features like adaptive brightness, which automatically adjusts screen brightness based on ambient lighting and can help conserve battery life. The Realme Narzo 50 is ideal for gaming, equipped with powerful octa-core architecture comprising ARM Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55. The CPU reaches clock speeds up to 2.05GHz, delivering a seamless gaming experience. A larger battery capacity helps to ensure smooth performance and an excellent all-around user experience. Activities like gaming, video streaming, or using resource-intensive apps can consume more power than tasks like texting or checking emails. With Sony, Nothing, and now Realme offering regular software and security updates, smartphones can benefit from further optimisations to enhance battery performance. Other smartphone Battery Life results can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table. Power Efficiency Smartphone Power Efficiency is crucial for smartphone users as it directly impacts battery life and overall device usage. It refers to the ability of a smartphone to maximise its performance while minimising power consumption. Calculated using Battery Life and Battery Capacity and expressed in "Leaves", it reflects a rating between 1 being the least and 5 being the most power efficient. How power efficient is the Sony Xperia 10 IV? The Sony Xperia 10 IV was awarded 1 out of 5 as a smartphone battery efficiency score. This matches the Realme Narzo 50 when tested for battery efficiency, although the Nothing Phone 1 did achieve a higher rating. Comparison of Smarsmartphone'shones in the Mid Tier As the Sony Xperia 10 IV and the Nothing Phone 1 use the latest Snapdragon processors, they help to provide more power efficiency. With a smaller battery, the Nothing Phone 1 is the most power-efficient with a 1.5 rating, above the Sony Xperia 10 IV and Realme Narzo 50. All smartphone chipsets, including the Mediatek Helio G96 processor for the Realme Narzo 50 designed for gaming, deliver high performance while consuming minimal power to optimise system resources for improved efficiency. Manufacturers are continuously making minor improvements to balance smartphone performance and energy efficiency. These include the management of background processes and improved app organisation, which enhance resource allocation so power consumption can be minimised. Other smartphone Battery Efficiency results can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table. Annual Energy Consumption ViserMark is pleased to offer a new label providing a smartphone's Annual Energy Consumption. The calculation is typically based on several factors, including the smartphone model, battery capacity, usage patterns, and charging habits. Although challenging, specific testing criteria are measured using real-life scenarios and live networks to reflect usage accurately. How much energy does the Sony Xperia 10 IV use? The ViserMark calculations show the Sony Xperia 10 IV would use 3.2 kWh per Annum. The Nothing Phone 1, when tested, used 3 kWh and the Realme Narzo 50 slightly more with 3.6 kWh. A smartphone's battery capacity plays a significant role in determining energy consumption. Devices with larger batteries of 5000 mAh, like the Sony Xperia 10 IV and Realme Narzo 50, tend to consume more energy than the Nothing Phone 1, which has a smaller battery because it stores more energy. Comparison of Smartphones in the Mid Tier Daily activities greatly influence energy consumption. For instance, frequent use of power-intensive apps, heavy gaming, or prolonged video streaming can drain the battery faster, resulting in higher energy consumption. Conversely, conservative usage and enabling power-saving features can reduce energy consumption. Through ViserMark's battery performance testing protocol, end-users can see an objective benchmark across all devices on their smartphone's expected annual electricity consumption. Other smartphones' Annual Energy Consumption results can be viewed as ViserMark Labels in the Smartphone Ranking Table. Should I buy it? The Sony Xperia 10 IV has many standout features worth considering as the next smartphone purchase. It boasts exceptional water resistance, a dedicated telephoto camera and excellent battery life, making it a reliable choice for users who prioritise these features. Furthermore, this phone is sleek in design and delivers a smooth overall user experience having a snappy performance and a high-quality 6-inch AMOLED display. However, there are a few drawbacks for the Sony Xperia 10 IV: the slow refresh rate and lack of a camera system compared to other smartphone competitors. The Sony Xperia 10 IV still represents a significant improvement over previous Xperia smartphones of the past. Its ease of use and affordable price make it an attractive smartphone choice for those seeking an over-around functional device that delivers. The experts at ViserMark have made it easier for everyone to make the best choice when selecting a mobile phone. One of the most important and key consideration is that of battery performance. ViserMark have tested and reviewed 100’s of mobile phones, so if you are looking for a new mobile phone, compare reviews here Everyone wants their mobile phone to be available to use when they need it, however, the reality is that when battery power is running low it has a much bigger impact on our productivity than it used to. So our experts have compiled these 10 top tips to help you to increase the battery life of your mobile phone. 1. Reduce Screen Brightness If you want to save the battery life of your mobile, this is the simplest one to remember. With much of the power being consumed by the screen, you can easily save battery life by manually reducing the brightness or use the auto-brightness feature available included in many mobile phones. Lowering the refresh rate (option available for some devices) or lowering the resolution will also have a positive impact on the battery life. 2. Good Charging Practices It is an important step to save battery life because discharging and overcharging directly stresses mobile phone batteries by reducing their life as well as their performance. You need to avoid draining your mobile battery all the way to 0% and leaving it charging once you have reached 100%. 3. Darken Your Applications Look at your current applications installed on your mobile phone. How many of them are displayed using bright colours like white? If you can always choose a dark theme if possible. Many more of today’s applications are already choosing to use a dark theme in their settings to save battery life. This applies to devices with OLED screens. 4. Get to Know Wi-Fi Connecting to Wi-Fi will help to save battery life, as constantly searching for a cellular network consumes battery power. By going to the settings panel you can disable cellular data instead to keep WiFi only. Remember to switch on again when you need cellular data and don't have WiFi coverage. 5. Reduce Screen Timeout Often the display is turned on, so when a mobile phone is not being used the screen will automatically turn off, usually in about 2 minutes. By lowering the time or turning off the ‘always on' display will help to extend the battery life longer. 6. Turn off Apps when not in use With so many applications available and in use on a mobile phone, often they remain running in the background both draining mobile phone memory and battery. Remember to regularly disable Apps to save battery life. 7. Use Location Features when needed Location services can be extremely useful, although they are a key contributor to draining battery life. By turning them off when they are not needed will add power to battery life. 8. Turn off Bluetooth Using Bluetooth will drain your mobile phone battery fast when listening to radios or playing music wirelessly. Turning off Bluetooth will preserve mobile phone battery life. 9. Uninstall Unused Applications Some applications tend to use an unequal amount of power, so it is good to regularly delete applications that are no longer required. Often there are lighter versions of some popular applications, designed to use less space and data which can help to save battery life. 10. Turn off Synchronisation Finally, by using automatic google account synchronisation, more battery power is needed. It can be easily disabled in the settings and can be synchronised manually when required. • 2G / 3G Networks Shutdowns and Consumer Implications

2G and 3G network shutdowns refer to phasing out older generations of mobile network technology in favour of newer and more advanced ones, such as 4G and 5G. As newer mobile technologies have emerged, older technologies such as 2G and 3G have become less efficient and less capable of supporting the demands of modern mobile communication. This has led many countries and mobile network operators to begin the process of shutting down their 2G and 3G networks to make way for newer, more advanced technologies. The shutdown process typically involves a gradual phase-out of 2G and 3G services, with mobile network operators providing a transition period during which users can switch to newer technologies. The timeline and process for shutting down 2G and 3G networks vary by country and operator. Still, the trend is generally towards fully transitioning to 4G and 5G technologies in the coming years. One of the main benefits of shutting down older mobile network technologies is that it frees up valuable spectrum resources that can be used to support newer and more advanced technologies. This can help to improve network performance and provide faster and more reliable mobile communication for users. However, it can also create challenges for users who may still rely on older devices or services incompatible with newer technologies and may require additional investment in new equipment or services to stay connected. The shutdown of 2G and 3G networks can significantly impact consumers who are still using devices that rely on these older technologies. Some of the key impacts include: Compatibility issues: Devices that only support 2G or 3G technologies will no longer be able to connect to the network after the shutdown, leaving consumers with limited or no connectivity. This can be a major issue for people relying on these devices for critical communication or accessing basic services. Upgrading costs: Consumers who want to continue using mobile services must upgrade their devices to ones that support newer technologies like 4G or 5G. This can be costly, especially for people on a limited budget or with older devices that are not compatible with the latest technologies. Reduced network coverage: In some cases, the shutdown of 2G and 3G networks can result in reduced network coverage, as the newer technologies may not reach all of the same areas or provide the same level of coverage. This can be particularly problematic in rural or remote areas with limited connectivity. Limited choice of mobile operators: Consumers who rely on 2G or 3G networks may have limited options for mobile operators, as some operators may choose not to offer services on these older networks or may phase them out earlier than others. Overall, the impact of 2G and 3G network shutdowns on consumers will depend on various factors, including the specific network being shut down, the timing of the shutdown, and the availability of alternative technologies and services. Mobile network operators generally provide advance notice and support for customers during the transition period. Still, it is important for consumers to be aware of the changes and to plan accordingly to ensure they can continue to access mobile services. SMARTPHONE TIER: FLAGSHIP/PRO Battery Capacity mAh: 3900 Ideal Power Pocket Smartphone from Samsung Smartphone Battery Performance Overall Score: 41/100 Overall Battery Performance Score: Ranking #85 Flagship Ranking: #5 All you need to know about the Samsung S23 smartphone. Overview Samsung has recently introduced another smartphone series to the Galaxy range. The Samsung Galaxy S23 may not look different from the previous Galaxy S22, but it delivers good battery performance and functionality with some notable upgrades. The latest Samsung S23 Series comprises the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra. ViserMark's first review of this series is the Samsung Galaxy S23, the smallest in battery capacity and display size and less expensive than the other two smartphones. We will test the remaining series and deliver the battery performance results soon. Entering the Flagship/Pro Tier (€700+), the Samsung Galaxy S23 joins several other devices in this high-end category based on similarly priced smartphones. All the other Galaxy S23 series of smartphones also compete in this tier. The Samsung Galaxy S23 is a highly advanced smartphone with a user-friendly interface that makes it very easy to use. It has a sleek, modern design with a large 6.10" Dynamic AMOLED display with a high resolution of 2340 x 1080. The screen has a high refresh rate of 120Hz, providing a smoother visual experience when scrolling through apps and websites. This mobile phone features a glass front and back with a metal frame, which gives a premium look and feel and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, designed to withstand drops and scratches. Having an HDR10+ certification, the display provides a clear and sharp display with an impressive 91.3% screen-to-body ratio, providing an immersive viewing experience. The camera set-up has improved with a fresher design than the Galaxy S22. One new feature is the under-display selfie camera hidden beneath the screen. This allows for a seamless and uninterrupted display without a visible camera cutout. Users can also enjoy a refined Nightography camera to capture high-quality photos and videos easily. This design can also be incorporated into the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra designs. With a surprisingly smaller battery capacity than the Samsung Galaxy S23+ and Ultra, the S23 offers a long-lasting battery performance to ensure you stay connected. The Samsung Galaxy S23 is available in "fresh new colours" such as Lavender, Cream, Green and Phantom Black. Samsung has also ensured that this mobile phone meets the Standards for Sustainability for Mobile Phones and has been certified to PAS2050, an internationally recognised standard. Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier In our recent smartphone review, the Samsung Galaxy S23 achieved 41 out of 100, compared to last year's Samsung S22 Plus; just one point more! By only a small margin, the Google Pixel 6 obtained a slightly better overall battery performance of 42 out of 100. Despite both Samsung devices having the same battery capacity 4500mAh, the Samsung Galaxy S23 benefitted from some notable upgrades to performance, enhancing user experience. The Google Pixel 6, with a 4600mAh battery capacity, is only fractionally bigger than both Samsung devices. During our testing, the Galaxy S23 provided 36 hours of good battery performance and could match other smartphones with 1.5 days of usage. When we tested the Samsung S22 Plus and the Google Pixel 6, only 3 hours separated all three devices. As shown in the chart below. Comparison of Smartphones in the Flaghship/Pro Tier Being powered by a Snapdragon processor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 offers fast performance, particularly better for gaming and video streaming, and a good user experience when running multiple applications simultaneously. The Samsung Galaxy S23 has an adaptive refresh rate between 48Hz to 120Hz. It enables the display's responsiveness during gaming. With 1,750 nits of brightness, the display is excellent indoors and outdoors, and the Advanced Vision Booster feature automatically optimises colour accuracy and contrast in certain conditions. There is a Dark Mode feature that helps to save battery life. Other smartphone battery performance results can be seen in the Flagship/Pro Tier Ranking table. Having a Kevlar Speed Texture Design (a race car-inspired design), the Realme Narzo 50 is available in Speed Blue and Speed Black. The material pattern on the Realme Narzo 50 is strikingly like that of a OnePlus device. On the rear, there's a carbon fibre-like pattern that looks pretty good in the sunlight. The rest of the aesthetic is substantially like previous Narzo phones. The phone has a side-mounted power button, a fingerprint sensor on the right edge, and a volume rocker and SIM card slot on the left. The bottom section includes a 3.5mm headphone socket, a speaker grille, and a charging port. Actually, the Realme GT2 achieves a greater smartphone energy efficiency rating of 2, in spite of only having a 4500mAh battery capacity.
